From The New York Times best-selling author of Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? comes a fun, frank book of reflections, essays, and interviews on topics important to young women, ranging from politics and career to motherhood, sisterhood, and making and sustaining relationships of all kinds in the age of social media.

Alyssa Mastromonaco is back with a bold, no-nonsense, and no-holds-barred 21st-century girl's guide to life, tackling the highs and lows of bodies, politics, relationships, moms, education, life on the internet, and pop culture. Whether discussing Barbra Streisand or The Bachelor, working in the West Wing or working on finding a wing woman, Alyssa leaves no stone unturned...and no awkward situation unexamined.

Like her best seller Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?, So Here's the Thing... brings a sharp eye and outsize sense of humor to the myriad issues facing women the world over, both in and out of the workplace. Along with Alyssa's personal experiences and hard-won life lessons, interviews with women like Monica Lewinsky, Susan Rice, and Chelsea Handler round out this modern woman's guide to, well, just about everything you can think of.

  • It has been so great to hear Alyssa Mastrommonaco on all of my favorite podcasts this week, and even better to see the package with this book in my mailbox yesterday!

Just read the first few chapters (essays?) and they were great. Funny, interesting, and reads like a conversation with your super cool friend.

I'll update when I'm done, but I wanted to get a review in so that people will see that they need to 1) add to cart and 2) proceed to checkout. Now!
  • A fun read. Love the essay format and lists. Alyssa is a best friend in my head. Looking forward to her next book.
  • I loved this book so much I’m immediately downloading her first one when I’m done writing this review. Fun, funny, smart and engaging...stop what you’re doing and start reading it now.
  • Trump may not have IBS but he gives it to everyone else

a terrific take on those inside the pressure cooker of any White House. They are like
    towels that are wrung driy.

    commend highly
  • Even at 60 years old, I loved every page. Their stories resonated deeply with me taking me on a trip down memory lane. I will happily listen to Alyssa's stories about IBS and can even contribute a few of my own. The book made me want to be besties with Alyssa and Lauren. There is some very good guidance on these pages and I wish I had this book at 22. Buy and read the book, you will be glad.

P.S. Alyssa, you can find me on FB. (for those IBS stories)
  • I loved the voice and tone of this book, and the stories shared with humor and big-sisterly advice. Not taking herself too seriously but having healthy self-dignity and confidence, Alyssa Mastromonoco gives insight to her Obama years and also all the twists and turns that brought her to that opportunity. Reading this felt like chatting with a best friend. Absolutely loved this - started and finished it on a 3 hour flight!
  • i laughed every 2 pages. the book is amazing. alyssa’s voice comes through (to the extent i know it from podcasts and all the nice things dan says about her). if you don’t like poop, that is your problem, not alyssa’s or mine. so worth it. everyone buy this book, relax and have fun.
  • Alyssa is so witty and insightful! Her stories are amazing, and so relatable!
